We were a bit daunted with the task of deciding on a plan for our hardscaping/landscaping project. We knew something needed to be done with the muddy mess of our side paths, but weren’t sure what would work in our budget or fit with our 50 year old property. I did know I wanted to work directly with the provider, rather than a contractor who hires another company to do the work.
None of our friends had recommendations so we finally decided to make a decision based on 3 quotes from companies we found on the internet. All were courteous and could have completed the job well, but we were impressed with the owner’s clear, affordable, firm quote and our 6th sense that he valued personal excellence.

Throughout the project he:
Communicated clearly by email.
Responded quickly to our questions
Cleaned after every day’s work.
Cleaned and reused the existing materials whenever possible, which was a a big plus for us.
The concrete pad he removed was much thicker than expected and was reinforced with rebar extending the time he had allocated for that job. Yet he completed the job on budget.
Worked on his own initiative to “make it right” when unexpected problems came up.
Offered design options and explained why he thought they would work.
He was honest and trustworthy in every interaction over the several days the project took to complete.
*also kudos to to his young assistant William who put a great deal of muscle into the work without complaint!
We found Ranjit has both skill and character - a rare combination in this world. If there was a star higher than 5 we would give it.

Before we started the project, I had anticipated a stress-filled confusing process (maybe I had low expectations :0 ) and instead they exceeded my expectations day after day.

We were looking to revamp our backyard, and interviewed different landscape designers and landscaper. Of all four different people that came, everyone other than Ranjith wanted me to sign a contract and charge by the hour to manage a project, and have me pay the contractors they recommend me to use. I didn't quite like the idea because of the potential of cost overruns. Ranjith was the only one that took out a measuring tape and prepared a serious quotation, and told him he would be doing the work himself.

Ranjith took the time to listen to what I envisioned, and provided advice on what is feasible, and what could become more costly. I had a LOT of questions, and Ranjith answered each and every one of them patiently.

Instead of finishing the entire project in one go, we had to scale the project back a few times due to other needs, and Ranjith would amend the quotation accordingly.

The reviews for Retrofit and Ranjith were what gave me the confidence to use a contractor found online, and I'm so glad to have found Retrofit Landscape Services.

Ranjith and Mark poured a concrete slab for a shed we are giong to build, and he built a walkway to the shed slab. Both are well-done, and our next door neighbour commented on how beautiful the work is. In the process, a choisya bush and two blueberry bushes needed to be transplanted, and the team made that happen.

The project took about 5 days, and each day Ranjith and Mark would show up at the time Ranjith said they would, and they always put away the tools and equipment before leaving. Both of them are polite and pleasant. We made some adjustments to the project along the way, and Ranjith accommodated the change without issues.

There are only good things I can say about Ranjith and his team. I would not hesitate to recommend Retrofit Landscape Services to anyone I know.

By far some of the best service I've received. Very quick to respond. Flexible in adjusting to budget needs. Honest (when they were able to find some shrubs at a lower price than budgeted, they returned the price difference). Extremely knowledgeable of plant species and were able to recommend several options for our project's specific needs. Project on time and on budget. Super clean during and after completion. Extremely caring: as part of an area of the patio that was not in their scope, Retrofit's owner noticed a small corner of a wood 2x4 that was sticking out and could pose a tripping hazard for my senior mom. Weeks after the project was completed and paid for, he texted to say he was in the area and could come and cut the wood. No charge, out of his own time and money. As an interior designer who works in the field this is not common to find. I recommend Retrofit wholeheartedly and hope to work with them again in future.
