Darren and crew (Jesus and Israel) took a pre-existing flagstone-lined concrete pond that was losing water (but who knew where?) and over a period of time employed continuous problem solving to achieve a waterproof upper and lower pond, which was my initial goal. Although the stream bed may need to be addressed next, I am very happy with the work they have done thus far. They repaired the lower pond edge using existing flagstone and used multiple products to ensure a waterproof lower pond. They raised the pan on the upper pond to ensure the waterfall there was spilling into the pond and not creating backsplash. Taking on a water feature that was initially built 25 years ago and was not your own work requires a bit of detective work and persistence and I applaud Darren and crew for sticking with it and working hard to achieve customer satisfaction! Some more work needs to be done on it which I wanted to do on my own (replant creeping thyme between the flagstone area in front of the lower pond and address the stream bed) and I appreciate the advice Darren provided to help me do that. I would highly recommend Woody’s Custom Landscaping for any project you might have!

Update - March 2025:
Woody's Landscaping delivered wonderful hardscape results again. After looking over the uneven, weed covered concrete slabs and unsafe footing on the N shop side, and my crude sketch, Darren promptly delivered a estimate.
The professional, friendly, and hard working crew removed the old slabs, worked around water pipes, installed two retaining walls. One wall protects conduits and plumbing along the N wall. The other forms the lower edge of the new patio space. The new patio sure makes a great difference. We look forward to enjoying the shop garden from it for years to come.
The crew also extended steps previously installed over by the barn, to continue up towards the house, with a gravel section between two sets of steps.
Not only does Woody's Landscaping do outstanding work, but they also nimbly roll with requested changes.

Update July 2024:
Woody's returned to help us when another old retaining wall next to the shop collapsed March 2024. Note picture of collapsed wall.
To start the replacement job this July, they had to carefully hand excavate the soil and acuba bushes since the water and utility lines were too close for an excavator.
They laid a very precise base course of Manor Stone, installed a beautiful french drain, anchored into the drain rock with geotextile, and tapered down the Stone layers pleasingly to match the garden contours. They installed drain rock on the path next to the shop. They cut the Manor Stone to integrate with older steps we wanted to keep, and an old shop concrete block wall.
As a gardener, I really appreciate the way they backfilled and graded adjacent dirt so it was easy for me to add flowers. They helped me spread extra dirt into uneven sections of lawn so we could reseed and have an easier time mowing.
Woody's gave us a fair price. The crew was friendly and professional. What a pleasure to work with Woody's again!

2022 review: Woody's Custom Landscaping did wonderful work rebuilding the collapsed portion of a river rock retaining wall and installing new, level, concrete steps into the wall to replace rotting, sloping wooden steps. They re-cemented adjacent rocks in the wall, placed thru-wall drains with collectors, added backing drain rock, and thoroughly cemented in the replaced rocks. They carefully sponged and filed the new cement to show off the shapes of the rocks and to permit good water flow. They did a very artistic job reinstalling the original owner's rock collection as the top course. They even placed nearby moss around one of those rocks to coach me about visually integrating new work with old.
The crew cut the new steps to fit into the existing irregular wall beautifully, and spaced them perfectly for secure stepping. They found a way to integrate a beloved old section of brick as a top step. They coped well with unexpected tasks, such as having to dig out a small boulder from where the first new step should get set.
Darren was easy to work with scoping the project, and recommending what sort of step material would hold up well and look good. He gave a reasonable estimate for the work involved, helping me figure out what could get done within our budget. His crews showed up promptly, with all gear needed, and worked hard but carefully, while remaining cheerful and friendly. They cleaned up meticulously at end of the job, and wheel-barrowed dirt no longer needed behind the wall into just where I could use it in a nearby garden. What a pleasant group!
We would love to work with Woody's again on future projects, and recommend them highly.

Darren and the team at Woody’s did an amazing job building us an 80 foot retaining wall after doing the demolition on a collapsing wood wall.
