Amir Afshar on Triton Landscaping

I had a fantastic experience working with Nigel from Triton Landscaping. He responded to my initial request very promptly and even came the very next day for a free on-site assessment. He took the time to thoroughly evaluate the situation and proposed a solution that not only addressed the issue but also stayed within my budget.

Nigel removed the existing concrete and replaced it with compacted screenings, and the planning from start to finish was excellent. He started the project exactly on the scheduled date and impressively completed all the work within a day. The area was left clean and tidy afterward.

Communication was great throughout the entire process — clear, professional, and timely. I truly appreciate his efficiency, attention to detail, and professionalism. I highly recommend Triton Landscaping and Nigel for any landscaping needs.

?? Caution: Disappointing and Misleading Experience with Triton Landscaping

I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with Triton Landscaping, run by Nigel, and I want to share it so others can be aware before hiring this company.

Last Saturday, I contacted Nigel for a quote on sprinkler system winterizing. He replied that he was only available on Monday, October 20, and required someone to be home. I explained that both my wife and I work full-time and it would be hard for us to be home that day. He then told me to send photos of all the green boxes and let him know how many zones my system has.

Since this was my first time doing winterizing, I had no idea what “green boxes” were. After he explained, I spent an entire afternoon searching my yard and managed to find and photograph two of them. Later, he said there should be a third green box because I have five zones. So I spent more time searching for another one, but without success.

I asked if he could do the winterizing using the control panel (controller) instead. He replied that it was “iffy” because if something was wrong between the controller and valves, it might not work. From all his messages, I got the strong impression that he could only perform the job manually through the green boxes, not through the controller.

That evening, I called him again for advice. He offered to come help find the third green box — but only that night (Sunday evening) — and said it would cost $100 plus GST for his visit. It was already dark, but he said he had a headlamp, so I agreed. I asked what would happen if he couldn’t find it, and he confidently said there shouldn’t be any problem locating it.

When he arrived, I expected some kind of detection tool, but he only used a metal pole — the same as I had been using. He searched for about 15 minutes, mostly in the same areas I already covered, and found nothing. Then he guessed that the third box might be buried under my vegetable garden, which made little sense. I later dug out that entire garden myself — there was no green box there. In fact, I eventually found the third green box along the fence between the front and back yards, which was a far more logical location.

What surprised me most was that, after failing to find the box, he suddenly said he could do the winterizing through the controller after all — even though he had told me earlier that it wasn’t possible. This made me question whether his $100 visit was truly necessary or just an excuse for an extra charge.

The visit lasted about 15 minutes in the dark, and at no point did he clearly explain that winterizing could safely be done through the controller before coming. I felt misled and pressured into paying for an unnecessary visit.

The next day (Monday), he completed the winterizing, but I had to manually run the controller for him. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d been taken advantage of.

Overall, I found Triton Landscaping to be unprofessional, misleading, and not transparent about their services or fees. I strongly recommend exercising caution before hiring this company.

We are really pleased with the new patio that Nigel from Triton landscaping did for us. He took the time to come out for a couple of visits to find out exactly what we were looking for, offered his insight and the result is an amazing looking back patio in our garden. Nigel was quick to respond to emails, questions and did the work on time and it came in on budget with the quote he gave us. We are thinking of hiring him again for another project next year. Thanks very much Nigel!

Greg Greene on Triton Landscaping

Working with Nigel was a great experience from the estimate stage to the completion of the work.

Nigel worked through a very hot week on a very hot site. (mid-July)

The job was complicated by having to cover access to the septic tank clean-out as well as a dealing with picky clients (Us) asking to add another 64 sq ft to the project just as he was about to finish the job.

He took great pains to ensure that the drainage would work properly and even seeded the areas around the perimeter and the side of the house where his equipment came in.

I would highly recommend Nigel for any landscaping needs!

Very professional service from Nigel. There many unexpected aspects to our finicky job that made it longer and unexpectedly complex (old property etx) but he handled it all with good grace, was always punctual and thinking of how best to maximize the outcome and minimize cost. Very happy we found him and can highly recommend his work.
